gamemaker is more mature and widely used, and imo has a better editor. but their new subscription model blows (you cant share your games without paying), so if you're starting from scratch, it's worth giving godot a shot. really, the best thing to do is try both and stick with whichever you like best. 32.I ended up using Godot for the benefit of using a lot more of prebuilt stuff than Defold (like 2d lighting, paralaxes and other stuff).
