nah mate you don't need 1 block gap, issue is with dripstone block that player is using. probably dripstone is programmed to check for growth when it is hanging off a dripstone block, so it might not be checking if it got lava above it and cauldron below.YES!!! I know if you have a hopper with coal/bamboo in the back/side it refills the fuel. Not sure if buckets of lava will refill, worth a try.
