The High Plains aquifer, also known as the Ogallala aquifer, is the largest aquifer in the United States. It stretches across approximately 174,000 square miles and 8 different states in the Midwest. This aquifer provides around 30% of the water used to irrigate agricultural crops in the U.S.This map shows aquifer water level declines across western and central Kansas based on preliminary results from the annual Kansas Geological Survey assessment taken in early 2022.
