The primary natural and cultural features that affect water- quality characteristics and the potential for future water-quality problems are described.The Ozark Plateaus aquifer system consists of three regional aquifers—the Springfield Plateau, Ozark, and St. Francois aquifers—separated by confining units (Miller and Appel, 1997; Renken, 1998). The primary lithologies of the formations that make up the aquifers are limestone and dolomite and to a lesser extent sandstone.
